The University of Catania, following to D. Lgs. n.26 del 4 marzo 2014, in progress of Direttiva 2010/63/UE, according to art 3. lett. d), e) ed f) of D.Lgs. n26/2014, establishs the "Organismo Preposto al Benessere degli Animali - OPBA - with general competence over all the activities that take place in the animal houses of SUU.
The OPBA, working in the field of animals protection used for scientific or educational purposes, has the aim to promote a culture of replacement, reduction, refinement (3Rs) and animal welfare and gives its opinion on research projects, giving the assurance that there are conditions for their realization.
COMPOSITION
According to art. 25 of the d.lgs 26/2014, and the Regulamentation SUU of University, the OPBA is composed as follows:
- Responsible welfare and care animals
- Veterinarian designated
- Expert of biostatistics
- Expert of pharmacology in animal sperimentation
- Expert of biology in animal sperimentation
